Massive Fire Destroys Winthrop Home While Resident Attends Sox Game

A devastating fire ripped through a historic Winthrop home on Saturday night while the homeowner was enjoying a Red Sox game in Boston.
Flames broke out around 7:15 p.m. at 43 Trident Avenue—a two-story, 150-year-old wood-frame house just steps from the Winthrop Fire Station on Shirley Street. Despite the proximity, the Winthrop Fire Department was short-staffed and had to call in major backup. Firefighters from Chelsea, Revere, Everett, Boston, and Massport all responded to help knock down the intense blaze.
Fortunately, no one was hurt. Two firefighters were checked out on scene for heat exhaustion but didn’t require hospitalization. At first, there were concerns that someone might be inside the home, but officials later confirmed the resident was out and safe at Fenway Park.
Winthrop Fire Chief Scott Wiley praised the quick work of all involved, saying their coordinated response prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.
