Small-scale development continues to reshape the neighborhood

Development in East Boston isn’t slowing down anytime soon. According to the Boston Business Journal, three new residential projects were just submitted for approval, and together they could bring 88 more units to the neighborhood, continuing a trend of small-to-mid-size developments that are subtly but steadily reshaping Eastie’s landscape.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Eagle Hill: The biggest of the three is proposed for 62-66 Condor Street — a 36-unit building that would replace an existing two-story home and a neighboring industrial property. This part of Eagle Hill has seen increased interest from developers in recent years.

  • Orient Heights: A 28-unit project is in the works for 1214 Bennington Street. The current site includes a single-story industrial office building and a nearby two-story structure that would be incorporated into the new build.

  • Jeffries Point: At 261 Maverick Street, a 24-unit residential development is being eyed for a site that now houses a one-story commercial building and parking lot.

All three proposals were officially filed last week.

And these aren’t the only projects on the books. Over on McKay Place, a 41-unit building is underway, while an old factory on Orleans Street is being transformed into a 123-room Cambria hotel — blending Eastie’s industrial past with its fast-growing future.

Of course, the biggest project by far is still the massive Suffolk Downs redevelopment, which straddles East Boston and Revere and is set to include more than 16 million square feet of new development. In the meantime, closer to home, the Sora Revere residential project near the Bennington Street line is nearing completion.

Stay tuned — Eastie’s skyline may not be changing overnight, but block by block, the neighborhood continues to evolve. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
