Eastie Development News: Six-Story Apartment Building Proposed Near Maverick Square

A new development proposal could bring more housing to East Boston. According to Universal Hub, a Burlington-based developer has filed plans to build a six-story apartment building with about 109 units at the corner of Chelsea and Maverick streets with retail space on the ground level.
The project would rise on a parcel that extends toward Bremen Street and has been sitting vacant since a funeral home and several neighboring buildings were demolished years ago for a three-story commercial project that never moved forward. The site was purchased last spring for roughly $3.6 million, and the new proposal would instead bring residential units to the long-vacant lot.
If approved, the building would add new housing near Maverick Square and the Blue Line, continuing the steady wave of development and change happening across East Boston.
For now, the project is still in the proposal stage and will go through the city review process before any construction timeline is set.
