Mary Ellen Welch Greenway Construction Begins This Week

The Greenway will be undergoing improvements in 2026 to address chronic flooding, improve lighting, upgrade site amenities, and add rain gardens and trees. The park will be under construction from March 2026 until approximately December 2026 and will be closed to the public between Marginal Street and Porter Street, including the crossing at Gove Street.  You can learn more about this project here! Pick up some seeds from the Eastie BPL + do some planting.

In celebration of spring, the East Boston Public Library is featuring a Seed Library! Located by the adult section, alongside the Therapy Cards, you will find the card catalog that has been repurposed as a seed holder! The Seed Library is open to all, and it’s first come, first served.

Pitch in!

Hey, Eastie!  Grab your brooms and get sweeping.  Over the winter, lots of trash and dirt can accumulate along our streets.  Be a good neighbor an sweep out the gutters and sidewalks in front of your home. Make piles near the corners for easy access for pick up.  Street Cleaning will be returning in April so it’s nice to get a jump on clean streets! Also, Mayor Michelle Wu and the Office of Civic Organizing invite you to participate in Boston’s annual Love Your Block Cleanups this April and May!  You can sign up here!Plus there will be a neighborhood clean up on Tuesday, March 24th from 5pm-6pm in and around Day Square organized by the City of Boston – meet at Spinelli’s Parking lot.  Clean up tools will be provided.

East Boston Winter Bike Ride

Boston Bikes, in collaboration with MassBike, has organized a winter group ride series. This is a slow-paced ride that include a mix of bike path and on-street riding in East Boston neighborhood. Ride will end with free hot chocolate.  One takes place on Saturday, March 28th from 10:30am-12:30pm in East Boston.  You can register here.  Hot chocolate will be served post bike ride.
