New on the Horizon: La Tavernetta, by Chef Douglass Williams of Mida, some residents oppose liquor license.

Looks like East Boston’s dining scene could be expanding. According to Boston Restaurant Talk, a recent licensing board hearing notice was posted stating that La Tavernetta by MIDA plans to open at Clippership Wharf. The concept originates from award-winning chef Douglas Williams, the driving force behind MIDA’s expanding group of Italian restaurants.
The proposed spot would feature a main dining room, a bar area, and a seasonal patio overlooking the water—offering prime scenic views. While details are still under wraps, more information is expected to be released after the official hearing next week.
If Williams’ track record is any indication, Eastie is in for something special. Named one of Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs and a multiple-time James Beard Award semi-finalist, Williams has already made a name with MIDA locations in the South End, Fenway, Newton, and yes—right here in Eastie.
The opening of this new restaurant is not without some hurdles. Members of the Maverick Central Neighborhood Association wrote a letter of opposition to the city’s licensing board.
📍 La Tavernetta by MIDA is slated for 35–45 Lewis Street at Clippership Wharf.
