Looks like the South Boston elected officials mean business when it comes to problem properties

According to Universal Hub, the Zoning Board of Appeal rejected a proposal by the owner – Patrick Alviti of 25 Dorchester St. to add a 20×25-foot deck. Alviti lives on the third floor of this building and the deck would be for his person use.

What was the reason it got rejected? Well, residents and elected officials say that this address is a problem property due to the amount of 911 calls about frequent loud parties there – nearly weekly complaints.

The mayor’s office and the offices of City Councilors Ed Flynn, Michael Flaherty and Annissa Essaibi George and State Sen. Nick Collins and State Rep. David Biele all voiced opposition.

In other development news, the ZBA also rejected another proposal in South Boston for a three-family at 1778 Columbia Rd. because  neighbors and elected officials objected due to its modern look – which could set a precedent that would lead to the gradual disappearance of three-deckers that now line that street. This proposal needed the boards approval due to the projects location but needed board approval because of its location. The board voted 6-1 against the project without prejudice, which means that the developer Andrew Enright can come back with revised plans.
