The Constitution is Underway to Celebrate the Commissioning of Submarine USS Massachusetts

Something pretty cool is happening on the water this weekend, Eastie. On Saturday morning, March 28, the iconic USS Constitution will set sail from the Charlestown Navy Yard at 8:30AM—marking its first cruise of 2026. The historic ship will be joined by 1812 Marines on board as it makes its way through Boston Harbor to honor the commissioning of the USS Massachusetts, a new Virginia-class fast attack submarine. As it passes by South Boston, keep your eyes (and ears) ready, a 21-gun salute will take place near Fort Independence, making for a pretty unforgettable moment. Best spot to catch all the action? Sullivan’s at Castle Island, of course. Grab a coffee, bundle up, and watch a little piece of history sail right by.

Check out some art in the neighborhood

If you’re looking for something artsy to check out in the neighborhood, here’s a good one to add to your list.  East Boston Muralists…Reimagined is still on display at the ClipArt Gallery through April 11, featuring the work of well-known local muralists Felipe Ortiz and Sophy Tuttle.  This exhibition is in collaboration with Atlantic Works Gallery (AWG) and curated by AWG member Jean M. Bernstein. The exhibit gives a different look at these artists—shifting from their large-scale murals you’ve probably seen around Eastie to more personal, studio-style pieces, including original works and prints. There’s also a closing reception planned for April 11, making it a perfect excuse to stop by, support local artists, and see a different side of some familiar names in the East Boston art scene.

Pick up some seeds from the Eastie BPL + do some planting.

In celebration of spring, the East Boston Public Library is featuring a Seed Library! Located by the adult section, alongside the Therapy Cards, you will find the card catalog that has been repurposed as a seed holder! The Seed Library is open to all, and it’s first-come, first-served.

Last Call for the East Boston Taco Trail

Taste of Eastie has rolled out the brand-new East Boston Taco Trail—a cultural and culinary adventure that highlights the neighborhood’s incredible Mexican taquerías, Salvadoran kitchens, and Colombian grills.
