After a month-long closure this summer, the Sumner Tunnel is expected to reopen on Monday. Thank goodness!
WBUR is reporting that traffic was difficult, and one Uber driver interviewed stated he wouldn’t offer rides from the airport any later than 5 a.m. due to traffic concerns.
Detours were put in place, sending drivers through the Ted Williams tunnel and across the Tobin Bridge. MassDOT reported that both detour routes had seen thousands more cars per week than last year. Wowza.
The contractors believe the tunnel restoration project is about 90% complete and the remaining work will be done during weekend closures through October.
