Another year in Southie, is just about over. As we look back on 2016 in South Boston, here are the top 10 posts on Caught in Southie. Back in July, a massive five hour search by Boston Police and Massachusetts State Police ended tragically with the discovery of a missing 7 year-old boy, Kyzr Willis’ body in the water off the beach of the Curley Recreation Center.
Southie loves its restaurant news, and with the ever-expanding landscape of spots to eat and drink in the neighborhood, there’s alway something to write about.
With the spring, comes the opening of legendary Southie hot spot, Sullivan’s Castle Island. Heather Foley offered her advice on the proper way to order at Sully’s.
Anytime Sobo is linked with the neighborhood of South Boston, most residents cringe at the sound of it. It was announced back in August that a new 36-Unit development would be named Sobo Place – and needless to say, you all went crazy!
Conveniently around Halloween, reports across the Nation were circulating about scary clowns lurking about neighborhoods. This commotion caused us to repost the wildly popular The Clowns in the White Van.
It wouldn’t be winter in Southie without numerous posts of spot saving gone wrong. A new trend surfaced last winter, spot saver shaming.
And it wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day in Southie without a little PSA on how to behave on parade day. Heather Foley wrote an etiquette piece on How to Behave Like a God-damn Lady. And boy did it stir up some comments on social media!
One of the biggest quality of life issues that Southie residents deal with is taking the bus. It was no wonder that this post about the MBTA’s new plan and moving the buses from Fourth Street to East Broadway permanently was so popular!
Summer at M Street Beach is the hottest place in Southie. When the organization of Floatella was thrown out on social media, people went nuts.
Honorable Mention: We can’t remember 2016 in Southie without mentioning the Starbucks Saga. The drama about the Seattle coffee chain going in at the corner at L and Broadway caused a major stir in the neighborhood.

Did anyone notice the world didn’t end when Starbucks opened up ? The better people now have a place to get better coffee at exorbitant prices. Did anyone notice the hypocritical head of the M & Broadway association, who vehement opposed Starbucks, now frequents the establishment. “Do as I say, not as I do”.
