HVNA Says “No Thanks” to Proposed Bennington Street Restaurant

At their latest meeting, the Harbor View Neighborhood Association (HVNA) made it official—they’re not on board with a proposed restaurant project at 636-638 Bennington Street.
A year ago, plans for the proposed restaurant, called El Parche, were presented at an abutters’ meeting, which included 40 seats and operating hours from 10am to 2am. The applicants were also seeking a beer, wine, and cordial license, a common victualler’s license, and approval for live entertainment from the licensing board. Last year, the plan was shot down but the applicants came back with a counterproposal of 20 seats and the hours of 10am-12am.
More recently, the closing time was also moved up to 10 pm. Still, the HVNA opposed.
The opposition stems from several community concerns, including the fear that the restaurant would be more of a bar and not a family-friendly establishment, trash, and noise.
The final vote was 38-2.
