At about 5:00 PM, on Monday, December 2, 2024, members of the Drug Control Unit assigned to District A-7 (East Boston) arrested Jonathan Mejia, 28, of Roslindale, on firearm charges.
Officers were conducting an ongoing drug investigation in the area of Bennington Street. Officers observed a motor vehicle park in the area and an unknown male carrying a bag entered the front passenger seat. Officers monitored the occupants and after about five minutes the front passenger exited the vehicle. Officers believed that a street level drug transaction had transpired.
Officers followed the suspected vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the entrance of the Ted Williams Tunnel. Officers made contact with the operator of the vehicle, and observed him to be continuously dropping his left hand to his side.
At this time, officers requested the operator to exit the vehicle, and conducted a pat frisk. Officers recovered a firearm from the suspect’s left jacket pocket. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 43 with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine. Officers also recovered approximately $4,486 in U.S. Currency.
Mejia was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm. He is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
