At about 10:37 AM, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, officers assigned to District A-7 (East Boston) arrested Carlos Cortez, 55, of East Boston, on firearm offenses.
Officers responded to the area of Meridian Street for a report of a breaking and entering in progress. Officers were advised that a possible suspect was inside the apartment. Officers advised the apartment owner to remain in the hallway while they made entrance into the apartment.
Officers conducted a protective sweep of the apartment and did not locate any suspects. Officers observed in plain view a loaded firearm magazine as well as a firearm holster.
Officers exited the apartment and immediately placed the apartment owner into handcuffs. Officers searched the suspect and recovered a firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Taurus PT ACP with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.
Officers continued to search the suspect and recovered a pill bottle with the label removed. Officers observed inside the pill bottle a plastic bag containing Fentanyl.
Cortez was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of Class A. He is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
