Outside EBO + Co Grocery on Meridian Street, a handwritten sign has been turning heads:
“Did your SNAP benefits get taken away? We think that’s extremely (expletive) up. Please take what you need.”
According to WBZ/CBS Boston, Owner Alexis Cervasio put the sign out front after hearing from customers affected by the recent loss of SNAP benefits. What started as frustration quickly became action.
“I just felt like we needed to do something,” Cervasio said. “That sign — that’s just me. Straightforward.”
She and her team made an initial $250 Market Basket run to stock a small table of free groceries outside the store. Within hours, Eastie showed up by matching donations.

The setup is simple — take what you need, no questions asked. When asked whether the shop would check cards or ask for proof of SNAP benefits, the answer was, “If someone needs it, it’s theirs.”
EBO + Co is still accepting donations. Stop by and pitch in or show your support to this amazing local small business!
In a neighborhood that knows how to rally, the message is clear: Eastie takes care of its own! How lucky are we to live where we live!
