Here’s a great Eastie story to go with your morning coffee!

East Boston resident Marcela Villa is bringing a taste of her native Colombia to the neighborhood with Don Luis de la Vega, coffee grown on her family’s small farm in La Vega, Colombia. Villa began importing the coffee to Boston earlier this year and now sells whole and ground beans to customers in Eastie and beyond.

According to the Boston Globe, the family started growing coffee in 2013, and the first batch of Don Luis was produced in 2021. The medium roast features notes of cacao and passionfruit, and Villa says the beans typically make it to Boston within two weeks of being roasted.

For now, Villa takes orders through Instagram and delivers locally, but she has bigger plans for Don Luis. Her dream is to eventually open a coffee truck serving fresh coffee and pastries — and someday, a brick-and-mortar cafe in Boston.
