East Boston is Ready to Cheer on Colombia

East Boston is decked out in yellow, blue, and red as Colombian pride takes center stage ahead of Friday night’s FIFA World Cup knockout match against Ghana.
Colombian flags are flying throughout Maverick Square, decorating restaurants, storefronts, cars, and neighborhood businesses as fans get ready to cheer on their team. Local restaurants and bakeries are embracing the excitement with jerseys, flags, themed decorations, and watch parties.
According to the Boston Globe, the energy has been building throughout the tournament. Colombia advanced out of the group stage with wins over Uzbekistan and DR Congo and a draw against Portugal, giving supporters plenty of reasons to believe this could be a memorable World Cup run.
With one of the largest Colombian communities in New England calling East Boston home, Friday’s match is expected to bring packed restaurants, lively celebrations, and plenty of neighborhood pride.
