Congratulations City Council President Ed Flynn

Way to go!
On Monday, District 2 City Councilor and Southie native Ed Flynn was sworn in as the newly elected Boston City Council President. Mayor Michelle Wu offered her congratulations via twitter.

Back in December, we reported that Flynn believed he had the votes to gain the title. Evidently he was right!
The position of president is more ceremonial but does have the power to select committee assignments for members. A council president can also create new committees and choose which council committees receive specific line items. And don’t forget, if the mayor can’t  serve for any reason, or if the mayor leaves the position, the council president steps into that role i.e. Kim Janey.Â
Flynn now presides over a diverse city council that includes the newly elected elected Ruthzee Louijeune, Erin Murphy, Brian Worrell, Kendra Hicks, and Tania Fernandes Anderson.
