The Boston Adult Technical Academy (BATA) has expanded its educational reach by opening a new campus in East Boston. This development aims to provide enhanced opportunities for young adults aged 19 to 22, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds, to pursue their high school diplomas and prepare for future careers.

Established in 1999 as a night school, BATA has evolved into a comprehensive high school dedicated to serving mature, motivated students. The academy’s mission is to offer educational experiences that equip young adults with the necessary skills for success in the 21st century. The curriculum includes English language arts, mathematics, science, and humanities, with additional support for English language learners through sheltered English instruction. Students also have access to credit recovery programs, dual enrollment options in community colleges, and career exploration initiatives.

The new East Boston campus is set to serve 50 students in 2025, with plans to expand enrollment to 150 students by 2026. This expansion reflects BATA’s commitment to meeting the educational needs of Boston’s diverse population, providing a supportive environment for students to achieve their academic and career goals.

According to WBZ Radio, Boston Public Schools Superintendent Mary Skipper, at the opening celebration, highlighted the significance of BATA for immigrant students, stating that the academy enables them to gain career experience, learn English, and integrate into the city’s fabric. Mayor Michelle Wu emphasized the comprehensive support provided by BATA’s educators, who assist students with challenges beyond academics, including housing and family situations..
