Arson suspected in East Boston store fires – a woman from Chelsea is arrested.

Another Update via BPD:

At about 10:00 AM, on Monday, March 18, 2024, officers assigned to District A-7 (East Boston), and members of the Fire Investigations Unit, arrested Genesis Hurtado, 26, of Chelsea, on arson charges.

Officers responded to the area of 184 Border Street for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, officers were flagged down by an unknown party stating to officers that a possible arson suspect fled the area. Officers were able to stop the suspect in the area of 31 Central Square, and placed her into handcuffs. The Boston Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Officers were aware of a person of interest from a BRIC flyer that was disseminated in regards to an arson incident that occurred at about 8:03 PM, on Saturday, March 16, 2024 in the area of 210 Border Street.

After further investigation, Hurtado was placed under arrest for both arson incidents. She is charged with three counts of arson, and three counts of burning of personal property. She is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.

Update:

Police say an arrest was made on Monday in connection to a suspicious fire at an automotive shop in East Boston.

According to Boston Police, officers responded to AutoZone Auto Parts on Border Street just before 10m on Monday for a report of a small fire. Investigators determined the fire to be suspicious. One person was arrested and will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court for allegedly setting the fire. Their name has not been released at this time.

NBC10 is reporting that an investigation is underway following fires at two retail stores in East Boston on Saturday night. Around 8 pm, BPD and BFD responded to a call for small fires inside the  Marshalls and CVS stores on Border Street.

The incidents are being investigated as possible arsons.
