NeighborhoodHealth Announces Spring CSA Program is Open for Enrollment

If you’ve been looking for a way to eat more veggies, try something new in the kitchen, and support local farms while you’re at it, NeighborHealth’s CSA program might be your answer.

A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) allows community members to purchase a “share” of a local farm’s harvest. Each week during the growing season, members receive a box of fresh produce that changes with what’s in season. Many participants say the program has helped them improve their diet, cook more at home, and discover fruits and vegetables they might not have picked up otherwise.

Since 2012, NeighborHealth has partnered with Farmer Dave’s, a diversified farm in Dracut, to bring CSA shares directly to the East Boston community. Those who can purchase a full-priced share can sign up directly through Farmer Dave’s website and pay for the season upfront.

What makes this program stand out? Accessibility.

NeighborHealth worked with Farmer Dave’s to create a more affordable $20 half-share option, along with flexible weekly or biweekly payment plans. For residents who need additional support, income-based subsidized shares are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

SNAP recipients can also use their HIP (Healthy Incentives Program) benefits to pay for their CSA shares. HIP automatically reimburses SNAP customers for fruits and vegetables purchased from local farms. Monthly reimbursement limits are based on household size:

  • Household of 1–2: $40

  • Household of 3–5: $60

  • Household of 6+: $80

Thanks to flexible payment options and the HIP program, more Eastie families can access fresh, seasonal produce while supporting local agriculture.
