Tour de Eastie Hike! Explore East Boston on the Boston Boundless Trail with Walking City Trails

Looking for a fun way to spend a summer evening? Lace up your sneakers and join fellow hikers for the Boston Boundless Trail: Tour de Eastie on Wednesday, July 1st at 6 p.m.
Organized and led by Miles Howard, founder of Walking City Trails, this free, guided 2.5-mile hike will explore some of East Boston’s most scenic spots along the new 91-mile Boston Boundless Trail, with beautiful views of the Boston skyline along the way. The group will meet outside Dunkin’ at 1 Bennington St., next to Beachmont Station, before making their way through Eastie. After the hike, participants can keep the fun going with optional food and drinks at Renegade’s Pub near Orient Heights.
The hike includes a mix of paved and dirt trails, plus some hills and stairs, so wear comfortable shoes. The event is free, but registration is required. It’s a great opportunity to get outside, meet fellow hikers, and see Eastie from a whole new perspective.
URBAN HIKE FAQs
What supplies should I bring for an urban hike in the summer? Clothing-wise, for this particular hike, I suggest wearing walking shoes or boots with ankle support and some level of grip on the soles, and dressing in light, breathable clothing. Again, we will be passing through tick territory, so for protection, consider long pants, a coating of insect repellent, or both. A rain jacket can be helpful if it drizzles, and a brimmed hat will protect you from sun exposure. (Sunblock is highly recommended too!) If you like hiking with trekking poles for stability, I would bring those too. Finally, as with any hike, bring some water and snacks that you might enjoy mid-trek.
How can I get to the hike? Beachmont station, the meetup point, is served by the MBTA’s Blue Line, and our finish line is steps away from Orient Heights station, also on the Blue Line and serviced by the 120 bus, the 712 bus, and the 713 bus. While you can find street parking near Beachmont on residential streets, traffic around here in the evening can be intense. So if possible, I recommend taking the T, BlueBiking, or using a rideshare.
What if I’m running late for the hike? Please leave exta time to get to the Dunks by Beachmont station by 6pm, as we will set off around then. On the morning of the hike, I will send everyone who signs up here an email to confirm that the hike is on, and this email will include a map of the route that you can use if you miss the departure and would like to try and intercept us somewhere along the route.
The Walking City Trails are 100% community powered. Simply put, these urban trails would not exist without the enthusiasm and generosity of Boston explorers like you. If you would like to support our efforts to connect more people with the great *local* outdoors, CLICK HERE.
