The Golden Thread: New Public Art Trail Celebrates East Boston’s History and Community

Something new is taking shape in Eastie! Giant steel arches glowing with golden light are popping up around the neighborhood as part of The Golden Thread, a new public art and storytelling trail created by local nonprofit Project Starboard.
The project celebrates East Boston’s rich history, culture, and community through five installations called “Thresholds.” The arches will be located at the Golden Stairs, Lewis Mall, Border Street, Central Square, and the Mary Ellen Welch Greenway. Each installation will feature QR codes connecting visitors to multilingual stories about East Boston’s past, present, and future.
To celebrate, Project Starboard is hosting ONWARD! on Saturday, October 24th, from 5pm–8pm at The Tall Ship in East Boston. The waterfront event will feature guided previews of The Golden Thread, a celebration of the project, and special guests, including Massport CEO Rich Davey.
Tickets are $75, and proceeds will help support Project Starboard’s mission to celebrate and preserve East Boston’s stories.
