Strike up the nostalgia, Eastie—Central Park Lanes is turning 75 this January! A cornerstone of our neighborhood, this beloved bowling alley has been a hub of community and competition since it opened.
Central Park Lanes, a candlepin bowling alley, was opened in 1950 by Angelo Vozzella. Within 10 years, the demand for candlepin bowling was so high that owner Vozzella expanded, adding a second floor and 10 more lanes. The bowling alley is now owned by Chucky Vozzella, son of Angelo, who was once a professional bowler who made his first appearance on Channel 5’s “Winning Pins” as a teenager.
The lanes have kept their vintage charm, with retro scoring systems and old-school decor that transport you to a simpler time. Over the years, it has hosted many bowling leagues, family nights, and fundraisers, all while preserving the heart of what makes it special—its role as a community gathering spot.
Cheers to 75 more years! Let’s keep the good times rolling. 🎳
