Get to know East Boston’s “Wannabe Stay-at-Home Dad” on of Boston Biggest Food Influencers

If you scroll through Boston food content on TikTok or Instagram, chances are you’ve bumped into @wannabestayathomedad — and you might not have realized he lives right here in the neighborhood. East Boston’s Key Henson, 29, has quietly become one of Greater Boston’s most followed food reviewers, winning over tens of thousands of fans by cruising around the region with nothing more than a handheld camera and genuine reactions to everyday eats.
In a new Boston Globe feature, Key opens up about his journey from engineer to full-time content creator — all while keeping it real and relatable with reviews of burgers, tacos, subs, and more, usually shot right from his car seat. His handle might be Wannabe Stay-at-Home Dad (he isn’t a dad — and he doesn’t stay home), but his passion for sampling local bites and spotlighting neighborhood gems has made him a culinary voice worth following.
Here are some of his local food reviews via The Globe:
🍝 Rino’s (East Boston) — Classic Italian Done Right
Key calls this Eastie favorite one of the best restaurants in his neighborhood — and we’re not surprised. From hearty chicken parm to rich Bolognese, it’s comfort Italian that’s perfect for date night or a cozy takeout dinner you’ll actually want to recreate at home.
🌮 La Mesa (Chelsea) & Taqueria Jalisco (East Boston) — Birria Taco Face-off
Taco lovers, take note: Key says his top birria taco run is at La Mesa in Chelsea, just outside Eastie, though Taqueria Jalisco in East Boston is always in the conversation too. Both are staples for a flavorful, budget-friendly taco run.
Key also reviewed neighborhood icon, Santarpio’s which you can watch here!
