Pomona Could Be Getting Ready to Open in Maverick Square

A new café with Colombian-inspired flavors may finally be inching closer to opening in East Boston.
According to Boston Restaurant Talk, Pomona is scheduled to appear before the City of Boston’s Licensing Board this week via a virtual hearing as it seeks approval for a common victualler and liquor license at its Meridian Street location near Maverick Square.
The proposed setup includes a small bar area with five seats, along with a service area featuring tables and chairs for customers. On Pomona’s website, the team hints that they’re close to debuting, sharing that they’re “almost here” and teasing a menu focused on brunch, lunch, dinner, coffee, and drinks — all made with what they describe as a “Colombian soul” and crafted specifically for the Eastie community.
Pomona already operates a location in Swampscott, while a former outpost in Winthrop has since closed. Plans for a Jamaica Plain location were previously in the works but ultimately didn’t move forward.
If approved, Pomona will be located at 18 Meridian Street, adding another potential dining option to the ever-growing Maverick Square food scene. We’ll keep an eye on the licensing process and share updates as they come in.
