5 Things You Should Know This Week – October 5th

Boston Fire Aerial Drill Team Returns for Fire Prevention Week
One of Boston’s coolest Fire Prevention Week traditions is back! The Boston Fire Department Aerial Drill Team will be performing across the city this week. Made up of Boston firefighters, the Aerial Drill Team performs impressive high-altitude rope and ladder maneuvers that showcase the skill, strength, teamwork, and trust required on the job. The tradition dates back decades and returned in 2024 after a roughly 20-year hiatus. The team will perform around Boston during the week:
- Monday, October 5: City Hall Plaza — 12pm
- Tuesday, October 6: The Mather School, Dorchester — 11am
- Wednesday, October 7: Beethoven Elementary, West Roxbury — 9:45am
- Friday, October 9: TechBoston Academy, Dorchester — 9:45am
- Friday, October 9: Ohrenberger Elementary, West Roxbury — 12:15pm
- Saturday, October 10: Castle Island/Fort Independence — 11am
- Sunday, October 11: Florian Hall for the Local 718 10K — 10:30am

DOODAH!
Looking for something a little different to check out in Eastie? Atlantic Works Gallery is welcoming DOODAH!, a new exhibit featuring artists Rick Dorff and Walter Kopec. DOODAH! will be on display from October 2 through October 24. The Opening Reception takes place Saturday, October 3 from 4–7pm, followed by a Third Thursday Reception on October 15 from 6–9pm. The exhibit explores a little bit of everything — wanderlust, excitement, trouble, gadgets, and plenty of unexpected ideas — all through the artists’ unique points of view. And the name? DOODAH! is basically a nonsense word that can mean an unnamed gadget, excitement, or even a little trouble. Make of it what you will! Learn more from Atlantic Works Gallery.
