The new Cambria Hotel Boston Logan at 155 Porter Street may be close to opening, but its liquor license is still up in the air.

According to Universal Hub, the Boston Licensing Board deferred a decision on the hotel’s request for an all-alcohol license while it considers other applications for East Boston’s limited number of neighborhood-specific liquor licenses. The board also put on hold a request for a beer and wine license for Blackbird Doughnuts at 25 Lewis Street.

The Cambria plans to open with Cobbler’s Kitchen and Bar, a restaurant named as a nod to the former shoe factory that once occupied the building. According to the hotel’s attorney, the hotel and restaurant are nearly ready to open.

City Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata is opposing the request, pointing to the property’s long and complicated redevelopment history and arguing that the hotel should not automatically receive one of East Boston’s limited essentially no-cost licenses.

If the neighborhood-specific license is not approved, the hotel could still purchase a traditional liquor license on the open market for upwards of $600,000.
