Eastie Community Shows Some Love for King Kong, the “Mayor of Eagle Hill”

East Boston is showing up for one of Eagle Hill’s most beloved residents — King Kong, a 10-year-old dog affectionately known around the neighborhood as the “Mayor of Eagle Hill.”

According to Boston.com, King Kong was recently diagnosed with a stage 1 mast cell tumor and is scheduled to have surgery on September 3 to remove it. His owner, Marisa Nieves, started a GoFundMe to help cover the mounting medical expenses.

And in true Eastie fashion, the neighborhood stepped up. The fundraiser quickly surpassed its $1,500 goal, raising more than $1,700 from over 30 donors as of Saturday morning. Nieves said the donations will cover the cost of the procedure, with any additional funds going toward King Kong’s recovery.

King Kong was surrendered to a shelter when he was six and spent more than three months there before Nieves adopted him. Four years later, the “goofy, gentle giant” has become a familiar face around Eagle Hill.

We’re sending lots of love to the Mayor of Eagle Hill and wishing King Kong a speedy recovery!
