Eastie Couple Charged After Alleged Racist Incident at Restaurant Patio

An East Boston husband and wife are facing multiple charges after an alleged racist confrontation at a restaurant on Porter Street turned physical, according to prosecutors.

Authorities say the incident happened Tuesday night outside Tertulia’s Cafe when a group dining on the patio allegedly got into a verbal altercation with neighbors Gregory and Arielle Raso.

According to Boston 25 News, the couple allegedly yelled racial slurs at the group, who are Hispanic, and told them to “get out of this country.” Prosecutors also allege the pair sprayed diners with a hose and threw pieces of a fence toward the group, striking a child.

Both were arraigned on numerous assault and civil rights charges. Arielle Raso is additionally charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a child under 14.

A judge set bail at $750 for each defendant and ordered them to stay away from the restaurant and have no contact with the victims or restaurant patrons. The case remains under investigation.
