Prepare to Recycle those Christmas Trees

Recycle those dried-out Christmas trees this week! The City of Boston will be collecting them for the first two full weeks in January! Place trees at the curb by 6am on trash day. No decorations, bags, stands or lights on the tree. The tree will be shredded up to be used as compost. The compost will be distributed in various Boston parks o help new things grow! Boston Harbor Now Ice Sculpture Stroll around Boston

More than 40 sculptures, expanded waterfront programming, and Boston Common debut highlight the 2025 New Year’s Eve celebration, plus this year, a debut of a FREE water shuttle between East Boston’s Lewis Mall Dock, Fan Pier, and North Station. The ferry will depart every 40 minutes between 1:00-5:00 pm.  Get all the details here.

Take a Hike!

Continuing its tradition of promoting healthy outdoor recreation, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is once again welcoming families and residents across Massachusetts to kick off the new year with free guided hikes at DCR parks. On January 1, 2026, DCR will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its First Day Hike initiative with 16 hikes at parks across the state – from South Cape Beach State Park in Mashpee to Mount Greylock State Reservation in Lanesborough. This year’s hikes also mark the start of the 250th year of America’s independence.  Get all the details here.
