What the heck is going on? “Storrowing” in the Sumner – evidently it’s a thing and it needs to stop

If you don’t know what “storrowing” is, it’s basically a local colloquialism that refers to when a truck hits a low bridge or overpass on Storrow Drive and Soldiers Field Road in Boston and Memorial Drive in Cambridge.
After several trucks have “storrowed” in the Sumner Tunnel, State transportation officials are warning drivers of oversized trucks to find different routes so they don’t get stuck and cause traffic jams.
According to the Boston Herald, an increasing number of trucks have found problems while driving through the Sumner over the past month despite a $160-million project that has closed the tunnel periodically since April 2022, including an eight-week-long shutdown last summer.
State Rep. Adrian Madaro, from Eastie, wants to investigate how apps like Waze or Google maps can help trucks avoid this situation. In addition, Madaro would like to hold the drivers accountable for ignoring signs posted.
State Sen. Lydia Edwards who represents East Boston, would also like more signage starting at the Starbucks location on Route 1A in Orient Heights, through the Airport ramps, to warn all drivers of the height restrictions of the tunnel.
