According to federal prosecutors, two inmates from Massachusetts have been charged with the fatal beating of notorious Southie gangster James “Whitey” Bulger at a West Virginia penitentiary back in 2018. A third former inmate has been charged with conspiring with the pair to carry out the slaying that happened just 12 hours after Bulger was transferred there from a Florida facility.

Fotios “Freddy” Geas, 55, a mob enforcer from West Springfield, serving a life sentence for two gangland murders, and Paul J. DeCologero, 48, of Lowell, have been accused of hitting 89-year-old Bulger in the head multiple times and leading to his death.

Sean McKinnon, 36, a third and former inmate, was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

According to the Globe, when the cell doors were unlocked on Oct. 30, 2018,  he was beaten to death with a padlock stuffed in a sock. Geas and DeCologero were captured on video surveillance entering Bulger’s cell about two hours before he was found dead.

At the time of his death, Bulger was convicted of 11 murders and serving a life sentence.  Back in 2011, Bulger was “Caught in Santa Monica” after being on the lam for 16 years!
