Bird is the Word: Piping Plovers
Everyone wants to live in Southie! Even wildlife. We’ve got coyotes, deer, skunks, mola mola sunfish, whales, bald eagles, turkeys, bunnies and now we have piping plovers!
What’s a piping plover you ask? Well, they are rare birds that are now living behind the L Street Bathhouse. According to the Boston Herald, a section of the beach has been roped off to protect three piping plovers who’ve recently hatched in the sand. The birds’ numbers are increasing, but they do need active management for the population to grow.
